Sage is a loner-her father died suddenly when she was 19, her mother succumbed to cancer three years later, and she sustained significant facial scarring in an auto accident. The link between these two stories is Sage Singer, a young, non-practicing Jewish woman in a small New Hampshire town. In The Storyteller, her latest, she weaves together two parallel stories from the darkest hours of the Holocaust. Though the book can be pretty hard to read at times (I stopped more than once, too upset to continue), you have to keep pushing through to the end, and I promise you, you won’t regret it.Jodi Picoult, in her 19 previous provocative, plot-driven novels, has tackled a broad spectrum of timely social issues-from child abuse and capital punishment to organ donation and Asperger’s syndrome. Recommend it to your friends, and talk about what the novel teaches you. If you only ever read one Jodi Picoult novel in your life, I highly recommend you make it this one. In case you haven’t notice, this is one of my favourite novels, and certainly the best one I have read in quite some time. It’s a shame that only fans of Jodi Picoult will really read this novel, because it is a fantastic piece of writing which everyone should read. Though this is a work of fiction, Jodi Picoult has brought to light the horrors of what man is capable of. The Storyteller is one of those novels that, unfortunately, highlights how horrific certain parts of our history truly is, and it demonstrates mankind at its most evil. This is quite honestly one of the most powerful novels I have ever read.

If you are looking for a simple read to pass the time, a story to read before bed that you don’t really think about for the rest of the day, then again, this is not one for you.

If you are looking for an action filled, romantic story where you take a journey with your main characters, only for them to get their happy ending, then this is not the book for you. After getting to know each other, Josef confides in her, sharing his terrible secret. Josef is well known throughout the town they live in for being a generous man, who has recently lost his wife.

Whilst attending a grief group meeting, she meets and builds a small, friendly relationship with Josef Weber. The scar serves as a reminder as it was in this car accident that her mother passed away, and Sage always blamed herself as she was driving. 25 year old Sage Singer works nights in a bakery, not wanting to be seen by the general public because of a long scar across her face she gained after a car accident.
